Incat Tasmania Pty Ltd (Incat), an Australian shipbuilder, has finalized a contract to build the world’s biggest aluminum ship, totaling 130 meters in length. This deal is with an existing Incat client, Buquebus. This record-breaking ship, Incat Hull 096, will be the newest of nine other vessels Incat has supplied to Buquebus.
The aluminum ferry will join other ships they have supplied to Buquebus for use on the Rio Plato in South America. All in all, the ferry is expected to hold 2100 passengers and 220 cars. The ferry’s four dual fuel engines will run on LNG while traveling between Argentina and Uruguay, hitting a maximum speed of 40 knots.
Incat has begun the design and engineering for the ship and will begin construction when drawings are completed, and the client provides final approval. This deal is one of many that are a part of Incat’s four-year backlog of orders.
