Sempra Energy announced that they received positive reviews in Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for the Port Arthur LNG export project as well as the associated connector pipelines in Louisiana and Texas.
FEIS marks the final step prior to official approval for the project. Sempra’s President and CEO, Carlos Ruiz Sacristan, noted that the project will create jobs and support the local economy.
The Port Arthur LNG export site is planned to have two LNG trains, processing about 11 million metric tons per annum (mtpa), as well as up to three LNG storage tanks and the connector pipelines in Louisiana and Texas.
Port Arthur LNG and the Polish Oil & Gas Company signed a sale-and-purchase arrangement covering two decades. While this agreement is subject to conditions, it is expected to bring Sempra closer to their target of exporting 45 million mpta from North America to the rest of the globe.
Port Arthur LNG has already chosen Bechtel as the contractor for engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning, the project itself remains unfinalized. Contingencies include securing additional customer agreements, obtaining permits, deciding on final investments, and carrying out commercial agreements.
