MAN Energy, along with BWSC and the Minister for Energy of Benin introduced the Maria Gleta power plant near Cotonou, Benin. The 127 MW power plant kicked off operations and uses seven natural gas-fueled MAN 18V51/60DF gensets.
MAN Energy leadership mentioned that the plant will provide a low-emission, stable power supply for the country. The Maria Gleta plant is expected to grow to a 400 MW facility as part of the country’s “Revealing Benin” initiative.
According to Dona Jean-Claude Houssou, Minister of Energy of Benin, “The Maria Gleta power plant increases Benin’s capacity for electricity generation by more than 50 per cent. Our country now becomes more independent of energy imports. Thus Maria Gleta provides the conditions for positive economic prospects for Benin. It is an essential part of our action plan ‘Revealing Benin’, centered around 45 flagship projects aimed at strengthening macroeconomic development, consolidating democracy and improving living environment for the people of Benin.”
Additionally, Benin officials have plans with TOTAL to implement a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) in order to supply the power plant with liquified natural gas (LNG).
