The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) accepted Commonwealth Projects, LLC’s permit request for the construction of a new liquified natural gas (LNG) facility. The project will include six LNG trains and supporting facilities. The trains will each have the capacity for 1.4 million tons per annum (MTPA) of LNG for a total of 8.4 MTPA.
The project will be close to the Gulf of Mexico, next to the Calcasieu Ship Channel. Along with the LNG trains, there will be a marine loading berth that can service vessels with capacities up to 216,000 m3. Additionally, here will be a 3-mile-long pipeline to supply gas to the site.
Commonwealth’s President and CEO, Paul Varello stated, “FERC’s formal acceptance of Commonwealth LNG project’s filing application marks another significant milestone achieved by the Commonwealth LNG team and represents an important step in progressing the project and moving closer to a final investment decision.”
Commonwealth expects to make a final investment decision (FID) by the end of 2020 and anticipates the project to be operational by early 2024.
