Knutsen NYK Offshore Tankers (KNOT), an independent owner and operator of shuttle tankers, has signed a 10-year time-charter contract with Eni for two new 124,000 deadweight tonne (DWT) LNG shuttle tankers to operate in the North Sea. The vessels will be built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering shipyard in South Korea, with delivery scheduled for mid-2022.
Using LNG as primary fuel, with additional utilization of energy recovered from volatile organic compounds (VOCs), these vessels will provide significantly reduced emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalents. A battery package will be installed to save energy during dynamic positioning (DP) operation.
Eni is one of the major players in the area through its ownership in Vår Energi and has numerous interests in North Sea oil and gas fields. This agreement covers the third and fourth long-term time-charter shuttle-tanker contracts between Eni and KNOT Group.
