Disney Cruise line revealed the name of its fifth ship at the 2019 D23 expo. The newest ship, the Disney Wish, will showcase Rapunzel on its stern to represent the spirit of adventure.
Bob Chapek, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman stated, “There couldn’t be a better name for our incredible new ship because making wishes come true is part of the Disney DNA and is at the heart of so many of our cherished stories.”
The Disney Wish will include 1,250 guest rooms and will come in at about 144,000 tons, making it larger than both the Disney Fantasy and the Disney Dream. According to projections, the LNG-fueled vessel will be delivered in 2021 and operational in early 2022.
Mr. Chapek along with Imagineer Joe Rohde announced a new port of call destination in the Bahamas. Disney Cruise Line purchased Lighthouse Point and is planning to develop the land with the local culture as inspiration.
Furthermore, the company will utilize sustainable practices that will only develop 20% of the island and cutout the need to dig up a ship canal. Construction is expected to begin in 2020 with completion by 2023.
