Eesti Gaas increased its sales of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to 263 GWh in 2019 to become one of the largest suppliers of the fuel in the Baltic and Finnish region, a 20 GWh increase compared to 2018.
The company added new clients in Finland, Latvia and Russia in 2019. It assisted in the commissioning of Novatek’s LNG plant in Vysotsk and started bunkering operations in the ports of Hanko and Helsinki, noted Kalev Reiljan, a member of Eesti Gaas’ management board.
“As much as a fifth of the passenger transportation through the port of Tallinn these days is arranged with the use of environmentally friendly LNG fuel,” said Reiljan.
Being the largest bunkering operator in Northern Europe, Eesti Gaas has performed more than 2,400 operations in the ports of Tallinn, Helsinki and Hanko. The company reported that a new, unique LNG bunkering vessel built by Damen, a Dutch shipbuilding company, will start operating in the Gulf of Finland. Eesti also said it had obtained nine special semi-trailers for LNG transportation and bunkering.
Eesti Gaas manages the largest gas supply network in Estonia and is actively developing its renewable energy portfolio. In its export markets of Finland, Latvia and Lithuania the company operates under brand name Elenger.
