The first cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) on a Q-Flex vessel was delivered by Qatargas Operating Company Limited (Qatargas) to Petrobangla. It was also the first commercial open water ship-to-ship transfer involving a Q-Flex.
Loaded onto the ‘Al Thumama’ at Ras Laffan on September 4th, the cargo was received by the Moheshkali LNG Terminal (MLNG) on September 20, 2019. The terminal is located offshore Bangladesh and is the current home of the ‘EXCELLENCE’ Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU). Built and owned on an operating basis, the MLNG project is a joint development by the Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation (Petrobangla) and Excelerate Energy.
Under a 15 year charter deal to Petrobangla, the FSRU ‘EXCELLENCE’ started operation in April 2018.
The Q-Flex Class LNG Vessel, ‘Al Thumama’ has an overall cargo carrying capacity of 216,000 cubic meters.
Qatargas and Petrobangla signed a long-term Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) in September 2017 to supply up to 2.5 Million tons of LNG per annum for 15 years.
