Freeport LNG got approval from the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to site, construct, and operate a fourth natural gas liquification train. Freeport LNG’s has an existing liquification and export operation on Quintana Island and expects to include this new train at that site.
Freeport LNG is awaiting approval from the US Department of Energy to export the fourth train’s 5 mpta content non-Free Trade Agreement countries.
The Quintana Island site will be able to export at least 20 mpta with the addition of the fourth train. Currently, there are 20-year tolling agreement covering 13.5 mtpa. These agreements are held with Osaka Gas Trading & Export, JERA Energy America, BP Energy Company, Toshiba America LNG Corporation, and SKE&S LNG.
According the Freeport LNG’s Chairman and CEO, the construction of the fourth train is expected to begin later in 2019 now that they have FERC approval. In 2020 the site is expected to have the first three trains in full operation, with the fourth up and running by 2023. Freeport LNG will become the 5th largest LNG producer on the globe once the fourth train is operational.
