Greek utility company Gastrade has launched the second phase of the market test for the company’s Alexandroupolis LNG Terminal project on January 10.
The terminal will consist of an offshore floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) around 11 miles offshore in Northeastern Greece, along with a gas transmission pipeline connected to Greece’s National Natural Gas Transmission System (NNGTS). The FSRU will have a capacity of 5.5 bcm per year and a peak capacity of 22.8 mcm per day.
The terminal will help supply gas to Southeast Europe through the under-construction Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria and other existing or planned pipelines.
The first phase of the market test saw 20 companies submit expressions of interest for up to 12.2 bcm per year of regasification capacity at the floating terminal along with delivery to the NNGTS. The second phase saw eligible companies submit binding offers to Gastrade by February 24. After that, allocated participants will be invited to sign advanced reservation capacity agreements.
The project is expected to start commercial operations in the third quarter of 2022, with the tender process for the construction currently underway.
