Qatargas has delivered the commissioning liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo to India’s newest LNG receiving terminal, Mundra. This is the second LNG terminal that Qatargas helped commission in India within the past year.
The Mundra terminal, with its nominal capacity of 5 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG, is located in the Special Economic Zone in the Kutch district of the western Indian state of Gujarat. It can receive vessels with a capacity between 75,000 cubic meters and 260,000 cubic meters.
Qatargas first started supplying LNG to India’s Petronet in 1999. Over 2,000 cargoes under its various long-term sales and purchase agreements (SPAs) have been delivered since.
India continues to remain a key market for Qatargas, with a 46% increase in LNG imports – from 30 mtpa to 44 mtpa – and more construction of new terminals and other gas-related infrastructure planned.
