The keel-laying ceremony for the liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunker vessel for the new energy brand ELENGER, formerly known as Eesti Gaas, took place at Damen Yichang Shipyard in China. The ceremony included the Dutch tradition of weling three coins on the first section of the keel for good luck.
The vessel has a six thousand cubic meter capacity and will provide ship to ship distribution for vessels in the Baltic region. The ship will arrive in Estonia next summer after sea trials in the spring. It will begin service in autumn, replacing the road tankers that Elenger currently uses to refuel Tallink’s Megastar Ferry, which operates between Tallinn and Helsinki.
The event was attended by Ain Hanschmidt, Chairman of the Advisory Board of Elenger and CEO of its parent company Infortar, along with representatives from both companies, Damen Shipyards Gorinchem, Damen Yichang Shipyard and Bureau Veritas.
Damen sales manager Peter Anseems cited the project as an example of cooperation between China and Europe in the LNG sector.
