MAN Energy Solutions received notice from Eastern Pacific Shipping for an additional order for six engines related to an existing five engine order. The engines will be part of an order for 11 neo-Panamax boxships that was originally placed in 2017.
The original order for five engines will be delivered by 2020. Those five engines will be MAN B&W 11G90ME-C units including scrubbers. The second order for an additional six engines is expected to be delivered between 2020 and 2022. Those six engines will be duel-fuel MAN B&W 11G90ME-C units. The six units will run on LNG and will include a low-cost pump vaporizer unit (PVU).
MAN’s Senior Vice President, Head of Two-Stroke Business states, “We’re also very happy that Eastern Pacific has chosen our new pump vaporizer unit, which makes the fuel gas-supply system installation significantly more compact. Apart from the reduced cost and weight, ordering both PVU and engine from the same designer provides many other advantages, including easier integration and straightforward installation.”
MAN already has 55 ME-GI engines in use with enough orders to reach 200 units in total. The company considers it a mature propulsion technology and is an industry standard as a clean and reliable option.
