Tokyo-Mitsui O.S.K. Lines has held a naming ceremony for the second of four newbuild LNG carriers ordered by MOL and China COSCO Shipping Corporation Ltd.
The LNG Merak was named at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., where it was built, on January 8th, 2020. The LNG Merak has a capacity of 174,000 cubic meters. Ownership of the vessel is split 50/50 between MOL and China COSCO Shipping
The LNG Merak, along with its sister ship, the LNG Dubhe, was built to ferry LNG from Russia’s Yamal LNG Project. LNG Merak will transship the project’s gas from European terminals to Asia.
The LNG Dubhe was delivered at the end of October 2019. The LNG Merak is MOL’s 12th LNG carrier built in China.
