India’s Tata Motors has delivered four 36-seater Starbus LNG AC buses to LNG Petronet, the country’s first order of LNG-powered buses.
The Starbus LNG buses were engineered and built by Tata Motors. They are the first passenger vehicles with an integrated LNG system developed for the Indian market. The LNG buses can carry 2.5 times more fuel than CNG models and have a range of 375-430 miles on a single full tank.
In addition to the model delivered to LNG Petronet, Tata also offers versions with a 2×2 layout (available in AC and non AC options), a 40-seater version with a 2×2 layout and a 56-seater model with a 3×2 layout. At an event held at the Kochi LNG terminal attended by Kerala State Minister of Transport Shri A K Saseendran and dignitaries from Tata Motors and Petronet LNG Limited, Tata Motors Vice President, Product Line – Buses Rohit Srivastava said: “Tata Motors has taken a significant leap forward with a slew of alternate fuel technologies for sustainable mobility solutions and with the delivery of first Starbus LNG bus, we have ushered in to a new era of transportation.”
