Uniper SE and Titan LNG have agreed to develop an easy-to-use interface and commercial products for small-scale LNG entities for use at the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) in Wilhelmshaven, Germany. This comes after the two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding to grow LNG in the downstream market for industry, road fuel, and shipping fuel in Germany.
The FSRU will allow loading onto smaller sea vessels and barges. The FSRU will also have truck loading bays to enable road transportation.
The road transportation possibilities will help establish LNG as truck fuel, parting from the traditional diesel fuel used in Germany. Replacing diesel with LNG will lead to reduced CO2, nitrogen, and sulfur oxide emissions. The German government is offering free use of German roadways for companies using LNG-fueled trucks.
Executives from both companies noted that their individual expertise will create the necessary synergies to make the project a success. Uniper has the infrastructure and supply chain while Dutch Titan has experience in the small-scale LNG market.
